Pelican Memory Card Case Review

I have always been pretty poor at storing my compact flash cards, typically in the little plastic boxes they came in, and spread across my various photography bags. I have been searching for a sturdy case for multiple compact flash cards for a while, but have always been dissuaded due to the poor reviews they received. They were either not very strong or it was virtually impossible to insert and remove the cards.

Pelican have recently launched a range of tough storage cases for memory cards, including SD, mini SD, XD, Memory Sticks, and Compact Flash. I have always been a fan of the Pelican cases, and their gradual move to retail products has brought with it their expertise with strong, light and rugged cases.

Pelican Compact Flash Case - Box Front

The Pelican 0940 Memory Card Case measures 4.20″ x 2.30″ x 0.56″ (10.7 x 5.8 x 1.4 cm) and can store up to 4 compact flash cards. It is small enough that you could have it at hand in your jacket or camera bag. It is made from the same polycarbonate resin that have made Pelican famous. An additional liner tray is included for added storage (in place of 2 compact flash cards).

The packaging is the type that needs scissors and gloves to open. I do wish manufacturers would start to look at alternatives to the blister pack. I understand that it can be cheap to manufacture, but if companies such as Apple can produce a blister pack-free product range, so should others.

The rear of the packaging includes the product description in both English and Spanish, and includes the Pelican lifetime guarantee of excellence. The case is made in China.

When taking out the Pelican from its packaging, you are amazed at how heavy and sturdy it feels in your hand. It really does feel like it is made from solid plastic. The case features a very strong clasp that maintains a watertight seal; however, it should not be submerged or used whilst swimming. A strap holder is included on one end if you wish to hang it from a bag or backpack.

The inside compartments are made of a rigid rubber material and hold the compact flash cards very firmly. The openings around each card holder allow easy insertion and removal of the cards.

An additional storage tray is included that can replace one half of the compact flash holders. This tray is not designed to hold a specific object, but could be handy if you only had 2 compact flash cards and wanted to make use of the spare space.

Pelican Compact Flash Case - Insert

Overall, I am very satisfied with my Pelican Compact Flash case. It is incredibly sturdy and looks and feels like it will outlast the compact flash format itself !!!
